Gymnastics Competes in Consecutive Tri-Meets

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State gymnastics team travels to Illinois State Friday, January 22, at 8 p.m. ET, to face both the Redbirds and the Lindenwood Lions.The Cardinals return home Sunday to host Illinois State again, as well as Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. ET.
“I'm looking forward to going on the road again with the team after a successful competition last week,” Ball State head coach, Joanna Saleem said. “We are looking to be competitive, confident and consistent as we face the Redbirds and the Lions in the season's first tri-meet.”
The Cardinals are coming off a 194.100-192.550 win against Towson University last Sunday. The team managed a 48.700 on vault, a 48.050 on bars, a 48.625 on beam, and a 48.725 on floor.
Against Towson, MAC Gymnast of the Week, Denasiha Christian won three event titles; vault (9.800), beam (9.825), and floor (9.825). Sophomore, Jordyn Penny helped post scores of 9.775 on vault and bars aiding the Cardinals to victory.
“This weekend is going to be packed with a lot of gymnastics,” Saleem said. “It is important for the team to stay calm, cool, and collected while they perform. I'm excited to carrying the momentum from last weekend into such a competitive atmosphere, of which I think our Worthen Arena fans will enjoy.”
For fans unable to attend the competitions, both meets will be streamed live… Illinois State can be watched pay-per-view and Ball State is FREE on ESPN3.
Following Sunday's competition the Cardinals will travel to Mt. Pleasant, MI to face Central Michigan, January 31 at 1 p.m.
