CLEVELAND – Ball State had 30 selections to the 2014-15 Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete list for the winter and spring seasons. As voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions, the list represents the “best of the best” from each sport's Academic All-MAC team.
Women's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's swimming and diving, and softball led the way for Ball State with five representatives each. Hannah Ciasto-Poor, Michaela Hull and Rebecca Lomax were selected to the lists for both indoor and outdoor track.
Ball State previously had 16 selections to the Distinguished Scholar Athlete list for the fall sports season. For the full academic year, the Cardinals had a total of 46 selections.
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete award is given to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. All student-athletes with a 3.20 GPA who participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their sport were named to the previously announced Academic All-MAC teams. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence were not eligible for the award.
From the Academic All-MAC teams for each sport, the faculty athletic representatives selected the “best of the best” to be honored with the Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award for the 2014-15 season. The number of Distinguished Scholar Athletes from each sport was equivalent to the number of first-team all-conference selections or 33 percent of nominees, whichever was greater.
