May 15, 2015 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. – Sophomore Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) paced the Ball State track & field team on the first day of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships held at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex, with a 14th-place showing in the pole vault.
With just four women's events completed on the first day of competition, Akron holds the overall lead in the 12-team event with 37 points. Toledo is second at 21 points, followed by Eastern Michigan (20.5), Kent State (20), Central Michigan (13), Northern Illinois (12), Bowling Green (12), Western Michigan (8), Ohio (7) and Buffalo (5.5). Ball State and Miami were held scoreless on the opening day.
In her second trip to the MAC Outdoor Championships, Eversole topped a height of 3.56m in her second attempt in the pole vault to claim 14th among the 20 student-athletes entered in the event. Senior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./South) also competed in the event but failed to clear the 3.56m mark.
In her first event at the MAC Outdoor Championships, junior Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) took home 15th place in the javelin throw with a toss of 32.15m on her third attempt. This improved her javelin throw of a 28.84m distance at the 2014 Outdoor MAC Championships.
Senior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) opened the conference championships with an 18th-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.83m. Lumpkin is also slated to compete in the discus Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with a 14th seed and distance of 43.87m.
Rounding out Ball State's opening day competitors were freshman Carley Shannon (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) and sophomore Jordan Timmons (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) in the 10,000m run. Both posted career-best times in the event, placing 22nd (39:02.96) and 23nd (39:33.38), respectively. Timmons shaved off 1.04 from her 39:34.42 time from the 2014 Outdoor MAC Championships, and the distance race was the first for Shannon in her career.
The Ball State track & field team is scheduled to compete in seven events on the second day of the three-day competition Friday, starting at 1:40 p.m. with Anna-Kay West (Manchester, Jamaica/Manchester) in the 100m hurdles and Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) in the 400m dash.
