May 01, 2015 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team looks to thrive in the greatly improved weather this weekend when it travels to Purdue's Rankin Track & Field for the two-day Rankin/Poehlein Invitational which begins Friday.
The lone event contested on Friday will be the hammer throw beginning at 3 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 10 a.m. with the javelin throw, while running events start at noon with the women's 100m prelims.
Last weekend, the Cardinals were hampered by wet weather as just three events were completed at the RedHawk Invitational hosted by Miami. Despite the poor conditions, the seven Cardinals able to compete at the meet notched five career-best performances. Leading the way was junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) in the hammer throw with a fourth-place mark of 53.44m, which is just 0.12m shy of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 53.56m.
