Track & Field Places Third At Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team turned in a strong showing at Saturday's Miami Invitational, placing third among the 15 scored teams at George L. Rider Track.
Overall, Ball State's student-athletes tallied eight career-best performances at the meet, while logging 19 top 10 individual performances. Cincinnati won the meet with a team score of 157 points, followed by Indianapolis (82), Ball State (78), host Miami (77), Findlay (69), Siena Heights (52), Northern Kentucky (51), Wheeling Jesuit (45), Saginaw Valley (44), IPFW (24), Ohio State (23), Butler (23), Central Michigan (18), IUPUI (17) and Shawnee State (1).
Sophomore Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) was one of three Cardinals to earn runner-up finishes at the meet, placing second in the pole vault by clearing an outdoor career-best height of 3.55m (11-7.75).
Sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) turned in a runner-up effort in the long jump, with a distance of 5.49m (18-0.25), and also led the Cardinals in the 400m hurdles with a six-place time of 1:05.05.
Ball State's senior twin duo of Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) continued to perform well in the 3000m steeple chase, placing second (11:17.79) and third (11:17.83), respectively in an near identical finish. Caitlynn Edon's effort was also a career-best time in the event.
The Ball State track & field team returns to action Saturday, April 11, when it travels to Hillsdale, Mich., for the Hillsdale Invitational which is set to begin at noon.
