Football's Scheumann Stadium Installing New Turf
April 30, 2015 | Football
Ball State's Scheumann Stadium, the home of the Cardinals' football team, is undergoing a turf replacement project expected to be done in June. In addition to installing new turf, the field will have a new design for the upcoming seasons.
“It was a pleasure for me to be a part of the group that went through the design and bidding process for our new turf field,” Ball State head coach Pete Lembo said. “We had excellent cooperation and support on campus from President Ferguson on down. The teamwork was excellent and it is exciting to see the project moving forward.”
The work is being done by Sprinturf out of Atlanta, Ga., and the surface being installed is Sprinturf Ultrablade Plus.
“The field itself will provide our student-athletes with a great surface both in terms of safety and performance,” Lembo said. “We practice in Scheumann Stadium each day as well as compete there on game days. You could argue that our football field is among the most visible pieces of real estate at the university, so the fact it will have an attractive look is an added bonus.”
The Cardinals will open the 2015 season Thursday, Sept. 3, in Scheumann Stadium vs. VMI. Only five of the 128 football bowl subdivision teams return more starters in 2015 than Ball State's 19 returning starters. The Cardinals have won 30 games over the past four seasons, the most in a four-year stretch at Ball State since 1977-80.
