MUNCIE, Ind. - - With the weather slowly turning to spring, the Ball State track & field program now turns its attention to the outdoor season starting Thursday and Friday when it competes in the Bulls Invitational hosted by USF in Tampa, Fla.
The two-day meet gets underway at 2 p.m. Thursday with competition in the women's hammer throw. The women's pole vault is slated to being at 4 p.m. and the lone running event of the day will be the 5000m run starting at 7 p.m.
Day two of the Bulls Invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. with the shot put and triple jump. The second day's running events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the 4x100m relay.
Ball State looks to make some noise on the opening day of competition as sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) and senior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) compete in the long jump. Skelton earned second team All-Mid-American Conference honors during the indoor season by placing second in the event at the MAC Championships with a career-best indoor leap of 5.88m (19-3.5). Crawford was not far behind, placing third at the league meet with a jump of 5.84m (19-2).
After a back-and-forth battle for the school record in the indoor pole vault this season, junior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) returns as the outdoor record holder in the event with a clearance of 3.72m (12-2.5). Sophomore Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) took over the top spot on the indoor list, however, by clearing a school-record height of 3.77m (12-4.5) at the Ball State Open (Feb. 20).
Overall, the Ball State outdoor track & field team has 21 student-athletes entered in the two-day Bulls Invitational spanning 18 different events.
