Gymnastics Competes at Nationally Ranked Kentucky
March 14, 2015 | Gymnastics
Ball State's gymnastics team scored a 194.200, but suffered losses to nationally ranked Kentucky (196.175) and Pittsburgh (194.450) to complete the 2015 regular season.
"We had a decent meet tonight, but it was disappointing that we gave away a win against Pittsburgh with a bunch of little mistakes," Ball State head coach Joanna Saleem said. "It really came down to our performance on floor just not being as sharp and polished as we are capable of doing. This is something we will have to work on during practice this week as we prepare for MAC Championships."
Denasiha Christian won the vault with a 9.875 and was sixth on the floor with a 9.800 to lead the Cardinals.
Angela Durkac tied for third on the bars with a 9.825, while Sarah Ebeyer and Erin Patchey tied for sixth on the vault with a pair of 9.725 scores.
"We did a respectable job on vault trying to make up some of the ground we lost on floor," Saleem said. "The top performer was Denasiha Christian. She stuck her vault to win the event and tied her career high score of 9.875. This was a beautiful vault and it was really exciting to see her do so well. I believe this is the third meet in a row she has won this event."
"The bar group did a really nice job of finishing strong and keeping a tight focus as we ended the meet," Saleem said. "Angela Durkac had a wonderful routine and tied her career high. Unfortunately we just couldn't make up the difference to beat Pittsburgh. In general this year's Ball State team has come a long way from last season. I am happy they continue to handle adversity and have learned how to be competitive. We have shown progressive improvements throughout this season. The plan for this year was to peak at MAC Championships, and I believe we are going to achieve that goal. This group is not satisfied, they are hungry to have that meet where all four events are just on point, where they are in the zone and just working really well together. I know they will be using that hunger to prepare for Saturday's MAC Championships."
The Cardinals will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships in Kent, Ohio, March 21 at 2 p.m.
