February 19, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball will be well-represented at this weekend's U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team tryouts, with three current members and one incoming freshman slated to participate at the Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo., Feb. 20-22.
Representing the current Cardinals will be senior setter Jenna Spadafora (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll), redshirt senior middle blocker Kelly Hopkins (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and redshirt sophomore outside attacker Sabrina Mangapora (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield). Incoming freshman Brooklyn Goodsel (Corry, Pa./Corry Area), who also competed in the Under Armor High School All-American match in Oklahoma this past December, will also be attending the tryouts.
“We are extremely pleased and proud to have three current Ball State women's volleyball players and a future Ball State player participating in the USA National Team tryout in Colorado Springs,” Ball State head coach Steve Shondell said. “The experience gained competing against the finest players in the country during this prestigious tryout can only benefit the future of Ball State volleyball. Not only are these excellent student-athletes representing our university, but also the Mid-American Conference where all three current Ball State players were members of the 2014 All-Conference team.”
In all, 232 student-athletes from 90 different colleges and universities are participating in this year's tryouts. Tryouts are for spots on the U.S. Women's National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Team and the U.S. Women's Junior National Team (for athletes born in 1996 or 1997). Student-Athletes selected for the listed teams will be notified by early March. USA Volleyball will announce the selections by the end of March once all roster spots are confirmed.
Ball State volleyball fans can follow the tryouts here, including a live stream beginning at 4 p.m. ET on Friday.
