
Fontaine Scores 28 Points In WBB's Win At Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior guard Nathalie Fontaine collected her 22nd double-double of her career after scoring 28 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the Cardinals' 72-60 victory at Lipscomb Thursday night in Allen Arena.
With the win, the Cardinals extend their win streak to four and improve to 6-2 on the season while Lipscomb falls to 3-8 on the year.
Fontaine led all playes in points and rebounds. She has now scored 20 or more points in her last three games. Moriah Monaco would also score in double figures adding 16 points to the victory.
Ball State continued to control the ball game in the third quarter building its largest lead of the contest (56-42) at the 2:09 mark. In the final quarter, the Bisons came within eight points of the Cardinals on three different occasions. Frannie Frazier and Shelby Merder stopped the Bisons from getting any closer after hitting key shots on three different possessions. Merder would go 2-for-2 from the 3-point line and would end the game with 10 points.
Both teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of play but the Bisons would take a four-point lead (19-15) over the Cardinals at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Ball State came alive in the second quarter, putting together a 21-to-6 run that gave the Cardinals an 11-point advantage over the Bisons at the half. In the second quarter alone, Fontaine and Monaco combined for 18 of the Cardinals' 21 points. Ball State played strong defensively as well, holding Lipscomb scoreless for more than six minutes.
For the game, Ball State controlled play in the paint, outscoring Lipscomb, 30-14. The Cardinals also controlled the boards, 44-23, and had yet another successful shooting performance after shooting 51.9 percent from the field.
The Ball State women's basketball team remains on the road but returns to Indiana to take on Big Ten foe Purdue Sunday afternoon in Mackey Arena at 2 p.m.
