Ball State Gymnastics to Host 2016 MAC Championships
November 09, 2015 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University women's gymnastics team has released its 2015-2016 schedule, which is highlighted by hosting the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships in Worthen Arena on March 19.
“I am excited to host the MAC Championships this year,” head coach Joanna Saleem said. “We will be holding all of our home meets in Worthen Arena this season and I really want to see some big crowds to fill the seats and give us that same energetic environment we are used to having at our home meets.”
This is the sixth time that Ball State will host the MAC Championships and first since 2009.
Four other home dates fill the schedule besides the MAC Championships. The season officially begins January 8 when the Cardinals travel to Kentucky. The following weekend (Jan. 17), Ball State opens its home schedule against Towson.
On Jan. 24, the Cardinals welcome Eastern Michigan and Illinois State to Worthen Arena. Ball State hosts Lindenwood, Kent State and Kentucky for the season's only quad meet on Feb. 14.
Bowling Green will visit Muncie on Feb. 28 for a dual meet.
The Cardinals' season ends with two exciting away competitions – a meet against Oregon State and Seattle Pacific in Corvallis, Oregon on March 4 and a trip to North Carolina to take on NC State on March 12.
“It will be a great experience to travel a little further this year and face some tough competition from both the West and East coasts,” Saleem said. “I am looking forward to the exposure for the team and I think that we are going to surprise quite a few people with our gymnastics this year.”
