WVB?s Jenna Spadafora Named First Team All-MAC
November 19, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
ATHENS, Ohio - - For her outstanding play during the 2015 Mid-American Conference regular season, Ball State women's volleyball senior setter Jenna Spadafora (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) has been named First Team All-MAC as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
Spadafora, who picks up the award for the second straight season, has been instrumental in guiding the Cardinals to an 8-8 MAC record and the sixth seed in this week's league tournament hosted by Ohio. She ranks fifth among setters in league-only contests with a 9.31 assists-per-set average, while her .336 (94-24-214) attack percentage is fourth among all league players.
“From the moment she arrived on campus, Jenna has had a major impact on our program,” sixth-year head coach Steve Shondell said. “She has evolved into one of the best setters in Ball State history, and her physical presence at the net is as strong as any setter in the Mid-American Conference. What has made her senior year special is her ability to lead her team on the court with positive leadership. Great leaders inspire, and bring the best out of their teammates. That is what Jenna has done better than ever her senior year.”
Entering the MAC Tournament, Spadafora leads all league setters (who have played exclusively at the setter position) in kills (96), kills per set (1.50), blocks (38) and blocks per set (0.59), while ranking second in digs per set (2.25) and third in total digs (144). In fact, her total 160 kills this season are the most for a six rotation setter (who has played exclusively at the setter position) in the country based on players listed as setters in the current NCAA statistical rankings.
Earlier this season, Spadafora recorded Ball State's first triple-double since the 2002 season with 10 kills, 13 digs and 41 assists versus Western Michigan (Oct. 3). She also owns six more dig/assist double-double during league play. If Ball State's 16 conference matches, Spadafora has handed out 40-or-more assists eight times, while blasting seven-or-more kills on nine occasions. She has also tallied at least one block in every league match, with three-or-more seven times.
Spadafora and the Ball State women's volleyball team open the 2015 Mid-American Conference Tournament later this evening with a 7:30 p.m. first serve versus No. 7 seed Buffalo at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.
