November 11, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Timmy Brown competed for the Ball State football team in late 1950s before going on to play for numerous years in the NFL, most of which were with the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown is one of 15 honorees to be inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Thursday night.
Originally from Knightstown, Indiana, Brown competed for Ball State from 1956-58. He earned second team All-America accolades from the Williamsburg Rating Service in 1958. That year, Brown set the program record, which still stands today, for most points scored in a game (25 vs. Illinois State).
Brown was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 1959 NFL Draft, but found a home with the Eagles. He spent eight seasons with the Eagles (1960-67) before playing his final professional season with the Baltimore Colts in 1968. His best season was 1965 when he piled up 861 yards rushing, 682 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. For his career, Brown amassed 3,862 yards rushing, 3,399 yards receiving and 63 touchdowns. He was the first NFL player to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in the same game (Philadelphia vs. Dallas, Nov. 6, 1966). Brown was a three-time All-Pro selection for the Eagles in 1962, 1965 and 1966.
Following his retirement from the NFL, Brown became a full-time actor where he used the name 'Timothy Brown.' He appeared in multiple films in the 1970s including MASH.
The 2015 Ball State Cardinals return to the football field next Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Ohio. That game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
