Track & Field Set For Wildcat Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After sending a limited squad to last weekend's Gladstein Invitational, a majority of the Ball State indoor track & field team will make the trek up I-69 Saturday, as the team competes in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University at the Troyer Fieldhouse in Marion, Ind.
Action in the meet, which will feature a number of collegiate programs from surrounding states, is slated to begin at noon with the women's pole vault and long jump. Track events begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 4x200m relay.
The Cardinals return to action after another strong showing at last weekend's Gladstein Invitational, in which Ball State's student-athletes recorded five top 10 finishes and nine career-best efforts in limited action.
QUICK HITS:
- Senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led Ball State at the Gladstein Invitational, placing third in the pentathlon with a score of 3574 points … Lomax's best effort came in her main event, the high jump, in which she placed second with a season-best and MAC indoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.73m … The effort currently ranks Lomax third in the MAC in the high jump.
- Sophomore pole vaulter Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) cleared the bar at a career-best height of 3.71m at last weekend's Gladstein Invitational, which is the second-best individual effort in program history … Eversole's mark placed 10th in the meet and was just 0.04m shy of the school-record mark of 3.75m set by senior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) at the Illini Classic (Jan. 17) … Ciasto-Poor's mark currently ranks 12th in the MAC, while Eversole's effort is 13th.
- Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) and sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) enter the week ranked sixth (5.76m) and seventh (5.75m), respectively, in the Mid-American Conference rankings in the long jump … Both efforts are MAC Indoor Championship automatic qualifying marks … Crawford also ranks eighth in the 60m dash (7.70).
- After her first-place showing in the 800m run at the BG Opener (Jan. 10), junior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) ranks 11th in the MAC in the event with a converted time of 2:14.89#.
- Junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) enters the week ranked seventh on the MAC performance list in the weight throw thanks to her toss of 17.09m at the Jerry England Alumni Opener (Dec. 6) … The effort is .25m shy of the MAC Indoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 17.34m.
- Ball State's success in the jumps has carried over to the triple jump, with junior Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and sophomore Gabrielle Perryman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) ranking 15th (11.13m) and 16th (11.12), respectively, on the MAC's 2014-15 indoor performance list.
- Ball State's student-athletes have posted one school record, 10 individual event wins and 37 career-best efforts through the first three meets of the season.
