January 24, 2015 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team opened the Gladstein Invitational with six career-best performances Friday afternoon at Indiana's Gladstein Fieldhouse.
With just 12 members of the squad in action this weekend, the Cardinals competed in six events on the opening day of the two-day competition.
Leading the way for Ball State was sophomore pole vaulter Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) who cleared the bar at a career-best height of 3.71m, which is the second-best individual effort in program history. Eversole's mark placed 10th in the meet and was just 0.04m shy of the school-record mark of 3.75m set by senior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) at last weekend's Illini Classic. Ciasto-Poor would place 11th Friday, with a clearance of 3.56m.
Senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) was Ball State's top overall performer, placing third in the pentathlon with a score of 3574 points. Her best effort came in her main event, the high jump, in which she placed second with a season-best mark of 1.73m.
The Cardinals also saw all four of its runners in the 400m dash come away with career-best clockings, led by sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) who placed 15th overall in 59.14.
Ball State's final career-best performance was logged by sophomore Gabrielle Perryman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) who placed 10th in the triple jump at 11.12m.
The Cardinals conclude action in the Gladstein Invitational Saturday, with student-athletes entered in the 200m dash, 600m run, 4x400m relay, long jump and weight throw.
