Track & Field Set For Saturday?s Illini Classic

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to competition Saturday, when it travels to Champaign, Ill., for the Illinoi Classic at the UI Armory. The 10-team meet gets underway at 9 a.m. with field events, and continues at 2:30 p.m. with track finals.
Set to join the Cardinals and Fighting Illini in the meet are Bradley, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Loyola, Northern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State, St. Louis and Western Illinois.
Ball State returns to action after a strong showing at last weekend's BG Opener, in which the Cardinals' student-athletes recorded two event victories, 15 top five finishes and seven career-best performances.

- Over the first two meets of the season, junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) has captured four individual event wins and is undefeated in the long jump winning, the event at both the Jerry England Alumni Opener (Dec. 6) and the BG Opener (Jan. 10).
- Junior Christina Crawford and sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) enter the week ranked first (5.76m) and second (5.75m), respectively, in the Mid-American Conference rankings in the long jump … Both efforts are MAC Indoor Championship automatic qualifying marks … Crawford also ranks fifth in the 60m dash (7.70) and 18th in the 200m dash (25.88#).
- After her first-place showing in the 800m run at last weekend's BG Opener, junior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) ranks third in the MAC in the event with a converted time of 2:14.89#.
- Junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) enters the week ranked sixth on the MAC performance list in the weight throw thanks to her toss of 17.09m at the Jerry England Alumni Opener. The effort is .25m shy of the MAC Indoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 17.34m.
- In her first high jump competition since suffering a season-ending injury late in the 2013-14 indoor campaign, senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) successfully cleared a height of 1.60m at the BG Opener … The effort currently ranks her 10th on the league's performance list.
- Ball State's success in the jumps has carried over to the triple jump, with junior Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and sophomore Gabrielle Perryman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) ranking eighth (11.13m) and 10th (10.99), respectively, on the MAC's 2014-15 performance list.
- Ball State's student-athletes have recorded 10 individual event victories and 20 career-best efforts through the first two meets of the season.
