Eight Softball Players Earn NFCA Academic Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Eight members of the 2014 Ball State softball team were honored as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athletes.
To qualify for the award, a player must finish the academic year with a 3.5-or-higher cumulative grade-point average at their respective institution. The NFCA recognized a total of 1,105 NCAA Division I student-athletes following the conclusion of the 2014 season.
“Success in the classroom is a major point of emphasis in our program,” Ball State head coach Tyra Perry said. “We are extremely proud of the achievements of our eight student-athletes. They work very hard to be the best and are deserving of this great honor.”
Representing the Cardinals on the list were: pitcher Kelsey Schifferdecker (3.946 GPA / Accounting), outfielder Loren Cihlar (3.888 GPA / Health Science), infielder Lauren Schroeder (3.880 GPA / Exercise Science), outfielder Hanne Stuedemann (3.849 GPA / Medical Preparation), third baseman Audrey Bickel (3.745 GPA / Sport Administration), outfielder/pitcher Sammi Cowger (3.741 GPA / Sport Administration), outfielder Taylor Cooley (3.612 GPA / Nursing) and second baseman Emily Dabkowski (3.565 GPA / Nursing).
Overall, the Ball State softball team posted a 3.220 grade-point average during the 2013-14 academic year, with 13 of its 20 student-athletes carrying at least a 3.100 mark over the course of the 2013 fall and 2014 spring semesters.
