
Gymnastics Wins Season Opener Over Illinois State

Ball State's gymnastics team tallied a 189.0 to 188.95 victory at Illinois State in the debut for first-year head coach Joanna Saleem.
Erin Patchey won the vault with a 9.725, while Brooke Evans and Sarah Ebeyer tied for second with a pair of 9.7's.
On the bars, Angela Durkac tied for first with a 9.75, while Samantha Santos was second on the balance beam with a 9.725.
The Cardinals took third, fourth and fifth on the floor exercise. Miranda Kuehl was third with a 9.70, Ebeyer was fourth with a 9.675 and Shelby Arms was fifth with a 9.65.
Ball State improved to 1-0 on the season, while the meet was the season opener for Illinois State and the Redbirds fell to 0-1.
The Cardinals will compete at Kentucky with Penn State and West Virginia Friday night before opening the home portion of their schedule Fri., Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. vs. Iowa.
