
Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated in MAC Play

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference action with its 4-3 victory over Western Michigan Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win the Cardinals improve to 14-7 overall and 3-0 in league play. Western Michigan falls to 16-9 overall and 2-2 in the MAC.
The Cardinals won the doubles point over the Broncos to begin the match on a strong note. Ball State has won four straight doubles points in its last four matches. On court two, Imanol Arconada and Alexandre Brym beat Ross VanderPloeg and Stephen Payne, 8-1. Dalton Albertin paired up with Austin Sansone at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Cardinals defeating Aaron Wong and Jim Beckwith.
Western Michigan tied the match 1-1 after Nadin Indre earned the 6-3, 6-3 win over Ray Leonard at No. 1 singles. Alexandre Brym and Austin Smith were victorious over the Broncos in straight sets at their respective positions to put Ball State up 3-1 over WMU. The fate of the match would come down to Dalton Albertin, Imanol Arconada or Patrick Elliott. Elliott fell behind early in the match losing the first set 6-4 but would come back to win the second stanza 6-4 forcing the match to go to three sets. Elliott took the deciding set at No. 4 singles which secured the 4-3 victory for the Cardinals.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action at home Sunday when it hosts Chicago State. The match will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center beginning at 11 a.m.
