September 17, 2012 | Football
Keith Wenning, a junior quarterback on the Ball State football team, has been selected as one of eight QBs to be honored as a Manning Award Star of the Week.
Fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for the best performance from this past weekend and the top vote getter wil be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Wenning completed 26-of-44 passes for 222 yards in Ball State's 41-39 win at Indiana Saturday. Wenning tied his career with three touchdown passes plus caught his first-ever career pass on a 12-yard TD catch from wide receiver Jamill Smith. The 26 completions tied his mark from the season opener vs. Eastern Michigan and ranks as the 10th best single-game mark in school history.
The other seven nominees for this week's award are David Ash (Texas), David Fales (San Jose State), Conor Halliday (Washington State), Jordan Lynch (Northern Illinois), Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M), Bryn Renner (North Carolina) and Geno Smith (West Virginia).
The Cardinals host South Florida Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Scheumann Stadium.
