WVB?s Bates Earns Spot On All-MAC Preseason Team

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball senior outside hitter Kara Bates (Bradley, Ill./Bradley Bourbonnais Community) was named to the 2012 West Division Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced today by the league office.
Bates, who is in her second season with the Cardinals after transferring from Maryland, was a First Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament Team selection for BSU last season. She led the Cardinals with a 3.20 kills-per-set average and tied for team-high honors with double-digit kills in 18 matches.
A member of the Marriott Volley Brawl and Spartan Invitational All-Tournament teams a year ago, Bates tied a career-high with 20 kills at Western Michigan (Nov. 4), while also adding a career-best seven total blocks in the contest. She collected five kill/dig double-doubles on the year, including a 14-kill and career-high 20-dig performance versus Eastern Michigan (Nov. 11) in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament.
Joining Bates on the 2012 West Division Preseason All-MAC Team were: Kaitlyn McIntyre (Central Michigan), Rachel Iaquaniello (Eastern Michigan), Mary Kurisch (Northern Illinois), Jessica Brown (Western Michigan) and Terin Norris (Western Michigan).
Bates and the BSU women's volleyball team open the 2012 season Friday, when they host Gardner-Webb in a 7 p.m. showdown as part of the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will also play VCU (11 a.m.) and Illinois State (7 p.m.) Saturday on the second day of the tournament.
