T&F Heads to West Lafayette for Mike Poehlein Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team returns to action this weekend when it travels to West Lafayette, Ind. for Purdue's eighth-annual Mike Poehlein Invitational at Rankin Track and Field.
Indiana, Notre Dame and Butler are among 11 other schools joining Ball State and host Purdue during the two-day event. The meet will start Friday at 3 p.m. with the hammer throws while Saturday's action begins with the javelin and discus at 10 a.m.
Last season, the Cardinals scored 11 top 10 finishes, including a pair of top-10 efforts from multi-event specialist Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport), BSU's top performer on the day. Lomax opened the meet with a second-place leap of 5-5 in the high jump, while completing the 100m dash in 12.60 to place sixth overall.
Ball State enters weekend action after opening its 2012 outdoor season with 12 event wins and 37 top-five finishes at Indiana Wesleyan's Polar Bear Invitational at the IWU Track & Field Complex.
Senior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) placed first in the 200m dash (25.33), second in the 100m dash (12.30) and joined freshman Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus), senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany), Lomax on the first-place 4x100m relay (48.14).
Lorenz, who added victories in the 100m hurdles (15.09) and 400m hurdles (1:06.84), and Taylor, combined with sophomore Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and junior Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) on the first-place 4x400m relay (4:00.94).
In other sprint events, Smith tallied a win in the 400m dash (58.34) and junior MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) posted a victory in the 1500m run with a time of (4:45.44), while classmate Madeline Goheen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) placed first in the 5000m run (18:33.16).
In the field events, Lomax tallied a leap of (5-10.00) in the high jump for first place, while freshman Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) placed first in the pole vault (10-6.00).
Crawford and junior Melissa Dodaro (Reynoldsburg, Ohio (Reynoldsburg) rounded out BSU's event winners with victories in the long jump (16-6.25) and discus (144-9), respectively.
