
Baseball Loses to 21st-Ranked Louisville

Ball State's baseball team suffered a 13-5 loss at Louisville in the final game of a three-game series with the 21st-ranked Cardinals.
With the loss, Ball State falls to 3-12 overall, while Louisville improved to 14-6. Ball State fell behind early after giving up eight runs in the bottom of the first, but played Louisville even from that point forward. After allowing two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-0 lead, Ball State scored two in the top of the sixth and three in the top of the seventh.
Chris Marangon took the loss and fell to 0-2 on the season for Ball State. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up six hits, eight earned runs, walked two and struck out one. Jacob Brewer came on in relief and went four innings, allowing only seven hits and two earned runs.
Elbert Devarie led Ball State offensively with a 3-for-4 performance and three runs-batted-in. Wes Winkle was 2-for-4 from the plate and scored two runs for Ball State and tallied his second double of the season.
Sean Godfrey was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
Ball State will open up Mid-American Conference play with a three game series at Akron Friday through Sunday. The games will be played at Indians Canal Park with Friday's game scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's contests are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
