Cal Bowling Named MAC West Pitcher Of The Week
February 21, 2012 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State senior right-hander Cal Bowling (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon. This is the second MAC weekly honor of Bowling's career as he picked up the accolades last season after tossing a complete-game shutout over Miami.
Bowling guided the Cardinals to their first season-opening victory since 2005 with a 4-3 win over Dayton, which won 32 games last season. He worked 6.2 innings in his second season as the Cardinals' Friday starter and allowed just two earned runs on nine hits. He struck out five batters while only walking one in the no decision despite leaving the game with a 3-1 lead.
Bowling has now worked 96.1 innings as a Friday starter in the Cardinals' rotation and owns a 3.37 ERA with a 5-5 record. Bowling and the Cardinals return to action this weekend with a three-game series at UAB. Friday's game is set for a 3 p.m. (CT) start.
