
Gymnasts Suffer Loss in Season Opener

Ball State's women's gymnastics team, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Nadalie Walsh, suffered a 190.850 to 186.300 loss at Illinois State in the Cardinals season opener Sunday.
Despite winning three of the four events as individuals, the Cardinals fell to Illinois State. The two teams will meet again Friday night with a 7 p.m. meet at Ball State's Irving Gym.
Nicole Allen managed an individual first-place finish on the vault with a 9.800 mark, while Aftyn Siemer tied for second with a 9.625.
Julie Cotter tallied a first-place on the bars with a 9.675, while Kayla Kmiecik tied for third with a 9.575.
Siemer won the floor with a 9.725, while Kristin Vignola was fifth with a 9.600.
Ball State won the vault as a team with a 47.650 mark, while Illinois State tallied a 47.250. ISU managed a team win on the bars with a 47.675 mark, while the Cardinals tallied a 47.275. On the beam, the Redbirds scored a 48.050 to Ball State's 43.750, and on the floor, Illinois State topped the Cardinals 47.875 to 47.625.
