Marx Named MAC West Defensive Player Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball sophomore middle blocker/right side hitter Mindy Marx (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Marx is the Cardinals' first league award winner this season and picks up MAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
In last weekend's Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State, Marx led the Cardinals with 15 total blocks. She also collected 14 kills and a pair of digs over the three matches.
Marx's top performance came in Saturday morning's victory over Sacred Heart, when she tallied a career-high 10 total blocks (one solo and nine assists), four better than her previous career-high of six set at Valparaiso earlier this season. She also collected a kill in the win.
With her effort at the net against the Pioneers, Marx become the first BSU player to record double-digit blocks in a match for the Cardinals since Sept. 6, 2006.
In last Friday's tournament-opener versus the host Spartans, Marx racked up four total blocks (one solo and three assist) and five kills. She added a block assist and eight kills versus Virginia Commonwealth in Saturday's nightcap.
Marx and the Ball State women's volleyball team open Mid-American Conference play Thursday, when it hosts Toledo in a 7 p.m. first serve at Worthen Arena.
