Soccer Posts 1-0 Victory Over IPFW
September 19, 2011 | Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Ball State soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four straight games with a 1-0 victory over IPFW Sunday evening at Hefner Soccer Stadium in its final non-conference game of the season. The Cardinals' four-game unbeaten streak is their longest such streak since 2007 (Oct. 28-Nov. 9) and improves Ball State's record to 7-0-1 all-time against the Mastodons.
Ball State (5-3-1) struck early in the game as freshman forward Jasmine Moses (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) found the back of the net for the third straight game. Freshman midfielder Ellie Chadick (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) sent a pass through the IPFW defense that sprung Moses in alone on a breakaway. She was able to beat the Mastodons' goalkeeper Kristen McFadden for her fourth goal of the season, all of which have come in her first three career starts.
The Cardinals controlled tempo for most of the first half as they held a 9-7 advantage in shots. The Mastodons pressed in the second half for the game-tying goal as the game became physical with IPFW recording five yellow cards and a red card. Ball State's defense held strong down the stretch to secure the shutout.
Junior goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler (Waukesha, Wis./UT-Martin) posted three saves to record her second straight shutout of the weekend. Moses and classmate Hannah Chadick (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) led the Cardinals with three shots apiece as they finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots.
Ball State opens Mid-American Conference play next weekend as it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a meeting with Western Michigan. The Cardinals return home Sunday as they host Northern Illinois at the Briner Sports Complex.
