Passing the "Mic" with Katie Hawkins

Katie Hawkins, a student assistant with the Ball State athletics media relations office, produces Passing the "Mic" to give an inside look of the Cardinals.

This edition features defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jay Bateman, who is in his first year with the Cardinals. In his 15th year as a football coach, Bateman spent from 2006-10 as an assistant coach at Elon under the direction of Ball State head coach Pete Lembo. Bateman also served on Coach Lembo's staff at Lehio in 2005. Prior to that, he had stints at Richmond, Siena and Hampden-Syndey, including head coach at Siena from 2000-03.

Bateman is married to the former Heather Dawson, and the couple has one daughter, Bea.
