IPFW Tops Loyola-Chicago In Volleyball Action

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The second day of the 2011 Ball State Active Ankle Challenge saw the IPFW Mastodons post a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 29-27) victory over Loyola-Chicago Saturday afternoon at Worthen Arena.
With the win, the Mastodons (1-0) will battle Ball State (1-0) for the tournament title Sunday afternoon in a 2 p.m. showdown between the in-state rivals.
The Cardinals enter the contest with a 16-match winning streak at Worthen Arena, which ties as the second-longest home winning streak in program history. Ball State has not lost a match at home since Nov. 6, 2009.
Freshman Emily Spencer shined in her collegiate debut for the Mastodons, leading the team in both kills (16) and digs (15) for her first career double-double. Jessie Manwaring added 10 kills, while Muncie Central graduate Tessa McGill collected 14 digs.
For the second straight night Laura Purcell paced the Ramblers (0-2) attack, tallying 11 kills. She also added a team best 12 digs for her first double-double of the season.
