MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior center fielder Cody Elliott (Florence, Ky./Beechwood) was selected in the 21st round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Cleveland Indians with the 638th pick overall and seventh pick of the round Tuesday evening. Elliott's selection marks the 16th consecutive season that Ball State has had a player drafted and he is the 51st Cardinal selected all-time.
Elliott, a Second Team All-Mid-American Conference selection, was one of the top defensive center fielders in the MAC this season. He was the Cardinals' offensive catalyst on the year posting a .325 batting average, second on the team.
Elliott led Ball State in hits (64), RBI (38), runs (34), doubles (12), triples (5), slugging percentage (.482) and stolen bases (14). He ranked ninth in the MAC in total bases (95) while posting a team-high 24 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI contests.
Elliott turned up his play in conference action as he recorded a .364 batting average in 25 league games, which ranked seventh in the MAC. He ranked third in the conference with 39 hits against league foes and was second with 26 RBI.
Last year, the Cardinals had three players drafted with Kolbrin Vitek selected in the first round (Boston), Perci Garner taken in the second round (Philadelphia) and Zach Dygert selected in the 22nd round (Houston).
