T&F Heads To Northern Illinois For MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team travels to the Northern Illinois Track & Field Complex this week for the three-day 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The event starts Thursday (May 12) at 11 a.m. with action in the women's heptathlon. The top eight performers in each event will score based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.
Last season, the Cardinals placed 10th among the 12 teams at the MAC Championships.
Freshman Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) leads Ball State in the MAC rankings, entering the meet holding the No. 3 slot in the high jump with her career-best leap of 5-7 (1.70m) set at the Stan Lyons Invitational (April 30). She also ranks 22nd among the entrants in the 100m dash at 12.60.
Junior Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) enters the meet ranked sixth in the 800m dash after posting back-to-back career-best efforts in the event over BSU's last two outings. In her latest race, Talhelm turned in a time of 2:12.00 at the Stan Lyons Invitational.
Redshirt junior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) is BSU's lone returning scorer from last season's meet, as she placed second in the heptathlon with a career-best score of 5,125 to earn eight points for Ball State. Lorenz is entered in the heptathlon again this season, as well as the long jump and javelin. She enters the meet ranked 15th in the javelin (100-1) and 16th in the long jump (17-11.75).
Overall, Ball State's student-athletes have combined to post 39 career-best efforts over the course of the 2011 season.
