Track & Field Scores Six Top 10s At Polytan Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team could not escape rough weather for the third straight weekend, tallying six top 10 efforts at the Polytan Invitational hosted by Indiana.
Over the last two days of the three-day non-scored meet, the Cardinals had to battle weather delays and rescheduled events to finish with several solid marks.
Multievent specialist Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) continued her stellar freshman campaign, placing third in the high jump with a season-best leap of 5-5.75 (1.67m). The height was the event-winning height, but Lomax lost out in a judge's decision as she needed two leaps to clear the previous height (1.62m).
Lomax also placed 11th in the 100m dash (12.60 w/0.2) and ran the first leg for the third-place 4x100m relay which posted a time of 47.66. She was joined on the relay by sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S), redshirt junior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) and redshirt sophomore Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.).
Taylor would go on to add an eighth-place finish in the 100m dash, clocking in at 12.37, and running the second leg for the sixth-place 4x400m relay which crossed the line in 3:58.05. Taylor was joined on the relay by freshman Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville H.S.), Lorenz and Smith.
Junior distance runner Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) also had a strong meet, placing ninth in the 800m dash with a career-fast time of 2:12.60.
Rounding out BSU's top 10 performers was redshirt freshman thrower Melissa Dodaro (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg H.S.) who added a fourth-place toss of 144-2 (43.95m) in the discus, while placing 14th in the shot put (38-7.75 / 11.78m). Both results were career-best efforts for Dodaro.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action next Saturday, when it heads to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2011 Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.
