MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team travels to Notre Dame, Ind., this weekend for the 24th annual Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. The two-day event begins Friday at 5 p.m. at the Loftus Sports Center.
In all, 47 women's teams from around the nation are sending at least one participant to the event. Ball State's student-athletes are slated to compete in eight individual running events, four field events and a pair of relays.
The Cardinals are coming off a very successful run at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational, in which BSU won 10 of the 20 events. BSU scored wins in the 400m dash (Judah Smith), 800m run (Christine Talhelm), 3000m run (Ali Bishel), 5,000m run (Madeline Goheen), 60m hurdles (Ra'Jae Marable), high jump (Rebecca Lomax), long jump (Thekla Lorenz), triple jump (Megan Cherry), 4x400m relay and the distance medley relay.
Thanks to her first-place leap of 5-8.75 in the high jump at the IWU Invitational, Lomax enters the week ranked first in the Mid-American Conference in the event. The effort is an inch higher than the next-best jumper. Lomax also ranks eighth in the pentathlon (3158).
Smith continues to rank among the league leaders in the 500m dash, with her effort of 1:19.02 at the BGSU Invitational. Her time of 57.87 in the 400m dash at the Gladstine Invitational is the 17th-best in the MAC.
After her win in the 60m hurdles at the IWU Invite, Marable enters the weekend ranked eighth in the MAC in the 60m hurdles.
Lorenz's effort of 18-10.5 in the long jump at the BGSU Invite has her ranked sixth in the league in the event, while she is 11th in the pentathlon (2845).
