Track & Field Hosts BSU Quadrangular Friday
February 17, 2011 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - In its final tune-up before the 2011 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, the Ball State indoor track & field team will host the Ball State Quadrangular Friday at 5 p.m. in the Field Sports Building.
In addition to the Cardinals, Northern Illinois, Miami and Western Michigan will compete in the four-team scored event. Scoring will be based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale, with only two participants from each school able to score in an event.
Ball State has placed second in its annual home meet each of the last two seasons, while Western Michigan has won the quadrangular the past two years.
Entering the meet, freshman multi-event specialist Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) continues to lead the MAC in the high jump with her season-best effort of 5-8.75 set at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational (Jan. 29). The height is also the fourth-best individual effort in program history and just an inch lower than the school record of 5-9.75 held by both Susan Setlack (2000) and Ashley Gillies (2002).
In the long jump, senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) turned in a season-best leap of 18-10.75 at the Meyo Invite (Feb. 4-5), which is currently the eighth-best effort in the MAC.
Both Lomax and Lorenz rank in the top 20 in the pentathlon at ninth (3158) and 12th (2845), respectively.
Senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) is BSU's holds the No. 7 slot in the 60m hurdles with her season-fast time of 8.79 set last weekend at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, while classmate Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) is ninth in the 3,000m run after her season-best clocking of 9:56.65 last weekend.
Sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) rounds out BSU's top-ranked runners, holding the No. 10 spot in the 500m dash with her time of 1:19.02 at the BGSU Challenge (Jan. 15).
