T&F Ends Hoosier Hills Invite With Three More Top 10s

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team tallied three more top 10 efforts on the final day of competition at the Hoosier Hills Invitational Saturday afternoon at Indiana University's Gladstein Field House.
The Cardinals finished the two-day meet with 16 top 10 performances, including a win in the 3,000m run by senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) Friday evening.
In the day's first event, senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.80.
Junior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) followed with a third-place time of 7.88 in the 60m dash finals.
BSU's final competitor was sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) who turned in a time of 57.03 to place third in the 400m dash invitational race.
The BSU indoor track & field team returns to action Friday, when it hosts the Ball State Quadrangular. The scored meet which also includes Northern Illinois, Miami and Western Michigan, begins at 5 p.m. in the Ball State Field Sports Building. Admission to the meet is FREE.

DAY ONE RESULTS
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team scored 13 top 10 efforts, including one event win, on the opening day of the 2011 Hosier Hills Invitational hosted by Indiana University at the Gladstein Field House.
The Cardinals' top performance of the day came in the 3000m run with senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) posting a season-best time of 9:56.65 to win the event by over 16 seconds.
After completing the 3000m run, Bishel went on to run anchor for the second-place distance medley relay which turned in a time of 12:17.60. Joining Bishel in the race were sophomore MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City), sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) and junior Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.).
Mellen would add a fifth-place showing in the mile run (5:02.94), while Talhelm placed seventh in the 800m run (2:19.73).
Also turning in a solid effort for Ball State was senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany), who placed second in the long jump (18-9/5.71m), fifth in the 600m run (1:38.84) and 21st in the shot put (36-8.25/11.18m).
In preliminary action, senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles (8.79), while junior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) advanced to the finals in the 60m dash (7.78).
Action in the Hoosier Hills Invitational continues at 10:40 a.m. Saturday with the finals of the women's 60m hurdles.
