February 10, 2011 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action Friday & Saturday, when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Hills Invite hosted by Indiana University at Gladstein Field House.
This will mark the Cardinals second trip to Bloomington this season, as it captured 11 top 10 efforts at the Gladstein Invitational Jan. 21-22.
Last weekend, the Cardinals collected three top 10 efforts at the highly competitive Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. In all, 47 women's teams from around the nation had at least one participant in the meet.
Entering this week's competition, freshman multi-event specialist Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) continues to lead the Mid-American Conference with her career-best high jump of 5-8.75 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The height is also the fourth-best individual effort in program history and just an inch lower than the school record of 5-9.75 held by both Susan Setlack (2000) and Ashley Gillies (2002).
In the long jump, senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) turned in a season-best leap of 18-10.75 last weekend at the Meyo Invite, which is currently the seventh-best effort in the MAC.
Both Lomax and Lorenz rank in the top 20 in the pentathlon at eighth (3158) and 11th (2845), respectively.
Senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) is BSU's final student-athlete ranked in the top 10 in the MAC, holding the No. 8 slot in the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.86 at the IWU Invitational.
