Kara Bates Named To MAC All-Tournament Team

GENEVA, Ohio - - After helping guide the Ball State women's volleyball team to the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time since 2005, junior transfer outside hitter Kara Bates was named to the six-member all-tournament team.
In the Cardinals' two tournament matches, the All-MAC First Team selection tallied a team-best 31 kills for a 3.88 kills-per-set average. She hit for a .242 (31-9-91) rate of success, while collecting 30 digs and three total blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs.
In Friday's quarterfinal victory over Eastern Michigan, Bates recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and a career-high 20 digs. She also posted a solo block to help BSU snap a two-match losing streak to the Eagles.
Saturday versus the Northern Illinois, Bates paced the Ball State offense with 17 kills, while adding 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She also led BSU's attackers with a .341 (17-2-44) hitting mark while adding a pair of blocks.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Saturday, when it battles A-10 Tournament semifinalist St. Louis in a 7 p.m. first serve at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will then await a possible at-large bid into the 2011 NCAA Tournament with the selection show airing at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
