
Women's S&D Tops Illinois State 195-101

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team posted wins in 13 of 16 events to score a 195-101 victory over Illinois State Friday evening at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-1 in dual contest this season, while the Redbirds' record falls to 2-2.
The teams traded victories in the first two events, with Ball State winning the 200 medley relay and Illinois State taking first in the 1000 freestyle, giving BSU a slim 20-16 edge in the contest. However, BSU went on to score wins in the next seven events to take control of the meet.
Senior Alanna Bader (Monroe, Wis./Monroe H.S.) and freshman Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell H.S.) each collected a pair of individual titles on the day, as Bader swept the butterfly events and Ruehl won both breaststroke races.
Bader turned in a time of 58.62 in the 100 butterfly and 2:08.41 in the 200. Ruehl finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.11 and the 200 in 2:24.74. Ruehl was also a member of the first-place 200 medley relay which started off the meet with a time of 1:48.95. She was joined on the squad by junior Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland H.S.), senior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) and senior Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.)
In addition to Ruehl, three other freshman scored wins on the day, with Jackie Iglesias (Aurora, Ind./West Aurora H.S.) winning the 100 backstroke (1:00.00), Mia Miller (Goshen, Ind./Goshen H.S.) taking the top spot in the 100 freestyle (54.20) and Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge H.S.) placing first in the 200 individual medley (2:12.28).
Rounding out the Cardinals' individual winners in the pool were sophomore Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights H.S.) in the 200 freestyle (1:56.93) and sophomore Mallory Przybylinski (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) in the 50 freestyle (24.88).
On the diving board, junior Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville H.S.) captured first on the one-meter board (244.42), while placing second in the three-meter (273.67) event.
Fellow junior diver Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) won the three-meter event (294.90), while placing second on the one-meter board (239.10).
Ball State ended the meet with freshman Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City H.S.), Miller, freshman Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge H.S.) and Bylsma winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.83.
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 22, when it hosts Miami in a 1 p.m. showdown at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The match will also serve as senior day for the Cardinals.
