Ball State has announced four individuals have been selected as team captains for the 2010 season, according to second-year head coach Stan Parrish.
Sean Baker, Davyd Jones, MiQuale Lewis and Michael Switzer will captain the Cardinals, who open the season Thursday at Scheumann Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff vs. Southeast Missouri State.
Baker, a junior safety from Canfield, Ohio, was fifth on the team in tackles with 61 and led the Cardinals with four interceptions in 2009. The 2008 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, Baker has 10 career interceptions for the Cardinals.
Jones, a senior linebacker from Muncie, Ind., started all 12 games last season and has played in 38 of 39 games in his career. He led the Cardinals and ranked 11th in the MAC with 100 tackles in 2009.
Lewis, a senior running back for Ball State from Fort Wayne, Ind., has rushed for 3,334 yards in his career and needs 669 rushing yards to become the Cardinals all-time leading career rusher. He needs 150 rushing yards to pass Bernie Parmalee, who is second on Ball State's career charts with 3,483 from 1987-90. Marcus Merriweather is Ball State's career leading rusher with 4,002 yards from 1999-2002.
Switzer, a senior offensive guard from Indianapolis, Ind., anchors an offensive line that will return seven players who combined for 60 starts in 2009. Switzer started all 12 games at left guard in 2009, and has started all 39 games in his three seasons.
