Bishel Repeats On Academic All-District V Second Team

MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the second straight season, Ball State cross country/track & field senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Bishel, a landscape architecture major with a 3.583 grade-point average, is the first student-athlete in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades twice during her career.
This season, Bishel was honored for her stellar cross country campaign which saw her advance to the NCAA Championships for the second time in her career as a redshirt junior in the sport. Bishel finished 67th among the field of 254 runners at the 2009 NCAA Championship meet, posting a career-fast 6K time of 21:04.7 in the race.
Bishel advanced to the NCAA Championships by placing seventh at the 2009 NCAA Great Lakes Regional with a 6K time of 21:07.7 to earn all-region accolades. She also earned All-Mid-American Conference First Team honors after placing fourth at the 2009 MAC Championships with a 6K time of 22.33.10.
BSU's top runner at every meet she competed in, Bishel posted the Cardinals' season-fast 5K time (17:28) in a winning effort at the Indiana Intercollegiates. She also picked up her sixth career Academic All-MAC award following the cross country season, having earned the honor twice for cross country (2008 & 2009), twice for indoor track & field (2008 & 2009) and twice for outdoor track & field (2008 & 2009).
In track & field this season, Bishel redshirted during the 2010 indoor season, while seeing limited action during the outdoor season. At the 2010 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Bishel placed fifth in the 10,000m run (36:13.11) and 12th in the 5,000m run (17:24.52).
