Softball's Elizabeth Milian Named Academic All-District

Elizabeth Milian, a senior pitcher on the Ball State softball team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball Team for a second straight season.
Milian will now appear on the national ballot and is eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, which will be announced May 26.
Milian owns a 3.97 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a secondary mathematics education major and led the Cardinals to a second straight Mid-American Conference Championship and MAC West Division title this season.
She owns a 28-5 pitching record and became the winningest pitcher in Ball State history May 1, after pitching a 13-0 shutout against Western Michigan for her 78th career victory. Milian, who now has 82 career wins, also set the Ball State career strikeout record and now has 725, breaking a 21-year-old mark set by Bernie Coffman from 1986-89. She has struck out 259 batters this season, breaking her own single season mark of 204, which she set in 2009.
The 2009 MAC Pitcher of the Year, Milian was also named the Nan Harvey Sportswoman of the Year from the MAC last season plus was named to the All-MAC First Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Team.
Milian will lead the Cardinals into the 2010 MAC Tournament at Akron, Ohio, Wednesday through Saturday. Ball State, which is the No. 2 seed in the tournament after sharing the overall MAC title with Kent State, will face Buffalo Wednesday at 5 p.m.
