April 09, 2010 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior second baseman/right-hander Kolbrin Vitek (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) has been named Midseason All-America by Baseball America as a utility player. Vitek is of just 15 players in the nation to be honored with a midseason award and the only player from the Mid-American Conference to earn accolades.
Vitek, a preseason All-America selection, is making noise at both the plate and on the mound this season. He ranks second in the MAC with a .413 batting average and is sixth in the league with a 3.55 ERA on the mound. The two-way standout also ranks second in runs (33), second in home runs (7), second in RBI (31), second in total bases (78), second in on-base percentage (.488), second in slugging percentage (.692), third in hits (45) and leads the MAC in batting average against (.224).
Vitek has already earned MAC West Player of the Week honors twice this season while also being named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week. Vitek and the Cardinals continue MAC play this weekend as they battle the Bowling Green Falcons in a three-game road series.
