Track & Field Travels To Purdue For Mike Poehlein Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team returns to action this weekend, when it travels to West Lafayette for the Mike Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue. Friday's lone event will be the hammer throw, beginning at 3 p.m., while Saturday's action gets underway at 10 a.m. for the field events and 11 a.m. for the track events.
Entering the meet, the Cardinals have four student-athletes ranked in the top 10 in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.
Redshirt sophomore Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) ranks in the top 10 in the league in three events, including third in the conference in the javelin throw (112-9/34.37m). Lorenz also ranks seventh in the 100m hurdles (14.95), eighth in the high jump (5-1.75/1.57m) and 12th in the 200m dash (25.73).
Senior Jenna Schmitmeyer (Celina, Ohio/Celina H.S.) is BSU's top ranked performer, holding down the No. 2 slot in the MAC in the 400m hurdles (1:04.59). Fellow senior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) enters the week with the ninth-best 5000m time in the conference at 18:47.88).
Redshirt junior Brittany Ade (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) rounds out BSU's top 10 ranked student-athletes with the 10th-best 800m run time of 2:23.09. She also ranks 19th in the league in the 1500m run at 4:50.03.
