Coombs Named National Primetime Pitcher of the Week
February 24, 2010 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State senior right-hander Morgan Coombs (West Terre Haute, Ind./Lincoln Trail College) has been named the inaugural CollegeBaseball360.com National Primetime Pitcher of the Week for his work in the Cardinals' season-opening series. Coombs is joined on the national list by New Mexico senior centerfielder Max Willett and Oregon sophomore second baseman Danny Pulfer, who were national Primetime Co-Player of the Week.
Coombs, who was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week, led the Cardinals to an upset victory over No. 15 Arkansas in the opening weekend of the 2010 season. He earned the Cardinals' victory over the Razorbacks as he tossed 5.0 strong innings of relief Saturday afternoon. He did not allow an earned run during the outing as he limited Arkansas to just four hits. He struck out a career-high eight batters in his first stint as a middle reliever after leading the Cardinals with six saves last year.
Ball State returns to action this weekend when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., for a four-game series against UAB. First pitch Friday afternoon is set for 3 p.m. (CT).
