MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State junior middle blocker Charde' Phillips (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cardinals with 37 total kills in BSU's three matches last week.
"Charde' put together an amazing weekend and truly earned this honor," said Ball State head coach Dave Boos. "She is a very explosive player who has the potential to take over matches and that is what she did this weekend."
Phillips opened play in the 2009 Ball State Active Ankle Challenge with the best match of her career, blasting a career-high 14 kills, while hitting a career-best .619 (14-1-21) in the Cardinals 3-0 sweep of IPFW. She scored nine kills in BSU's win over SIU-Edwardsville, while tying her career-high with 14 more kills versus Louisville.
In addition to leading the Cardinals in kills during the tournament, Phillips posted a team-best eight total blocks, while hitting .477 (37-6-65). Phillips was named to the all-tournament team for her play in the two-day event.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to the road this weekend, when it heads to the Best Western ISU Classic hosted by Indiana State. The Cardinals, who start the tournament with a 4 p.m. match versus Chicago State Friday, will also play Eastern Illinois and ISU during the event.
