Track & Field Ends Season At Mideast Regionals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Fifth-year senior Amber Williams (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran H.S.) and junior Katie Johnson (Evansville, Ind./Harrison H.S.) of the Ball State outdoor track & field team failed to advance past Friday's preliminary round of competition at the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by Louisville at Cardinal Park.
In the 100m hurdles, Johnson finished sixth in her heat with a time of 13.86, while Williams did not finish her heat. Johnson's time ranked 18th overall, .30 of a second shy of the top eight which qualified for the finals. Michigan's Tiffany Ofili won Johnson's preliminary heat with a clocking of 12.91, which qualified her first overall for the finals. Alabama's Kimberley Laing won Williams' heat with the afternoon's second-fastest time of 13.34.
In the 100m dash, Williams posted a time of 11.86 to finish eighth in her qualifying heat and rank 19th overall. The top four runners in Williams' heat advanced to the finals with LSU's Kenyanna Wilson posting the second-fastest time of the afternoon at 11.38.

Williams, a two-event champion and All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection at the 2009 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, posted NCAA Regional Qualifying marks in both the 100m hurdles and the 100m dash. Williams enters the 100m hurdles as the 14th seed with a time of 13.60, while her time of 11.66 in the 100m dash qualified her 15th.
Johnson, who placed second in the 100m hurdles to earn All-MAC Second Team honors at the league's outdoor championship, enters the 100m hurdles as the 17th seed with a clocking of 13.68.
Both athletes will hit the track at 2:40 p.m. Friday for the 100m hurdles prelims. Williams will return to the track 40-minutes later for the 100m dash prelims which are slated for 3:20 p.m. A total of 31 athletes are slated to compete in the 100m hurdles, while 23 qualified for the 100m dash.
Finals in the 100m hurdles will take place at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, with the winner of each of the four heats advancing to the race, as well as the next four fastest runners from the prelims. The 100m dash finals will follow at 5:05 p.m., with three heat winners and the next five fastest competitors from the prelims advancing to the race.
