April 21, 2009 | Football
D.J. Welte, who serves as the video and technology coordinator for the Ball State University football program, has been named the recipient of the Mid-American Conference Video Coordinator of the Year by the Collegiate Sports Video Association.
By virtue of the conference honor, Welte is now a candidate for the Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year, which will be presented at the CSVA Banquet May 14 in Jacksonville, Fla. The awards are voted on by members of the CSVA.
“The Ball State football program strives to be the best it can be in every area, and D.J. has proven to be the best in the MAC in his area of expertise,” Ball State head football coach Stan Parrish says. “He has a behind the scenes job that requires a lot of hard work and goes unnoticed by many, many people. To be recognized by his peers in his chosen profession is truly a great honor. He was a major factor in Ball State football becoming champions last season and is most deserving of this honor.”
Welte helped the Cardinals to an undefeated 12-0 regular season in 2008 plus helped Ball State make a second straight bowl game appearance for the first time in the 84 years of the school's football program. The 2008 season marked his second year at Ball State after spending the 2006 campaign as the video coordinator at Louisiana Tech and the 2005 season as the video coordinator at Arkansas State.
A 2005 graduate of Arkansas State, Welte is married to the former Elaine Guenther, and the couple has one daughter, Gretchen Rose.
