Gymnastics Ties for Fifth at MAC Championships

Ball State's women's gymnastics team tied for fifth at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships held at Worthen Arena on the Ball State campus.
Bibiana Rodriguez-Lockwood, a Ball State junior, tied for first on the uneven bars with a 9.850 plus earned All-MAC First Team honors. Rodriguez becomes only the second Ball State student-athlete to win an individual MAC title since 2004. Jenna Tarkington won the vault at the MAC Championships in 2004 and 2007. The 9.850 on the bars was a career-high for Rodriguez-Lockwood.
The Cardinals tallied a team score of 191.675 to tie Eastern Michigan for fifth place. Kent State won the meet with a 194.500, giving the Golden Flashes a second straight MAC Championship. Central Michigan was second with a 194.375, Northern Illinois was third with a 192.700, Bowling Green was fourth with a 192.425 and Western Michigan was seventh with a 190.075.
Ball State managed the third best score on the bars as a team with a 48.500 mark, while tallying a 48.175 on the vault, a 47.675 on the floor and a 47.325 on the beam.
Freshman Brittney Emmons was the Cardinals top competitor on the vault with a 9.800 plus tied for ninth on the floor with a 9.800. The 9.800 mark on the floor tied a career high for Emmons.
Ball State was in year two of head coach Nadalie Walsh's rebuilding process. After winning only one meet a year ago, the Cardinals tallied four wins this season. In addition, Ball State moved up from a sixth to a tie for fifth at the MAC Championships.
