PREVIEW:
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Fifth-year senior Amber Williams (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran H.S.) will represent the Ball State women's indoor track and field team in this week's NCAA Championships hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Williams, a three-event champion at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships two weeks ago, will be one of 18 participants slated to run in the 60-meter hurdle event. Prelims for the 60-meter hurdles start at 4:30 p.m. Friday (March 13), while the finals will be run at 5:20 p.m. Saturday (March 14).
Williams enters the race as the 15th-seeded runner in the event with a time of 8:24, which was the best in the MAC this season. Williams posted a school-record time of 8.19 in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2007 MAC Championships and ran to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships that season.
In her redshirt season a year ago, Williams placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships. After finishing third in her preliminary heat with a clocking of 8.24, Williams ran a personal-best time of 8.16 in the finals to capture fourth place.
Williams also posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 60-meter dash, but her time of 7.44 was not fast enough to break into the field of 17 for the event which was limited to runners with times of 7.37-or-better.
Other BSU runners who posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks were Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) in the 5000-meter run (16:39.80) and Katie Johnson (Evansville, Ind./Harrison H.S.) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.42). The field of 17 for the 5000-meter run posted times of 16:17.82-or-better, while the field of 18 for the 60-meter hurdles clocked in times of 8:27-or-better.
Below is a list of participants in the 2009 NCAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships for the 60-meter hurdles, including their season-best effort and date of the accomplishment.
