Gymnastics Competes in Exhibition vs. Kentucky

Ball State's gymnastics team started its 2009-10 season with an exhibition meet against the Kentucky Wildcats at Worthen Arena Saturday.
Kentucky tallied a 192.150 team score to defeat Ball State's 187.450.
Ball State began the meet on vault and tallied a 46.00 score, while Kentucky scored a 48.225 on the bars.
Brittney Emmons, who advanced to the NCAA Regionals last season on the vault, was the Cardinals top competitor on the vault vs. Kentucky with a 9.5. Freshman Amber Parsley tallied a 9.35 on the vault in her first appearance for Ball State. Nichole Sleeper tallied a 9.3 for the Cardinals.
Ball State's second rotation was on the bars where the Cardinals scored a 47.975, while Kentucky competed on the vault and tallied a 47.900. After two events, Kentucky led 96.125 to 93.975.
Julie Cotter, a first-year transfer from Alabama, led the Cardinals with a 9.75 on the bars. Emmons managede a 9.725, and Katelyn Busacker tallieda 9.675.
Ball State managed a 46.975 on the beam, while Kentucky tallied a 48.075 on the floor in the third rotation. After three events, Kentucky held a 144.20 to 140.950 advantage.
Leading Ball State on the beam were freshman Tiffany Brodbeck and Sleeper with a pair of 9.625 scores. Emmons was the third top competitor for the Cardinals with a 9.525.
Ball State's final event, the floor competition, saw Kayla Kmiecik and Ellie Carrico tally a pair of 9.625's. Emmons managed a 9.60 on the floor.
The Cardinals will open its 2010 regular season Jan. 10 at Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Ball State will host its first home event of the season Jan. 24 when it hosts its own Cardinal Classic at Worthen Arena. Joining Ball State at its own Cardinal Classic will be Southeast Missouri State and Illinois-Chicago.
